Where are we now?
Hip hop has come a long way from Grandmaster Flash to, Biz markie, Slick rick, Krs-1, Big Daddy Kane, LL Cool J, N.W.A , Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Notorious B.I.G., and so on until are artist now no longer resemble yesterdays artists. The super stars of today being that of Kanye West, Lil Wayne, T.I., Rick Ross, and Jay-z being the more obvious examples, also there are “Hip-Hops Class Of 09″ Which is 10 new artist predicted to breakthrough in 2009. Amongst them are Kid Cudi an artist who works with producers Emile & Plain Pat signed to Kanye west’s G.O.O.D Music label. Charles Hamilton an up and coming rapper/producer from New York signed under interscope, Asher Roth a white rapper releasing his debut album “Asleep in the bread isle” Wale an artist from DC who is also with interscope and B.o.B who is signed to T.I.’s Grand Hustle label he is often criticized for sounding like Andre 3000.

Saying all of this my question is where is hip-hop headed now? The Auto-Tune affect made popular by T-Pain is used more then ever by artist like Lil Wayne, Kanye West,RonBrowz, The Game, Drake even Redman and Method Man can be heard using the effect on there new song City Lights. However the effect isn’t used as often with these new artist though it is occasionally and what about Veteran artist’s such as Nas, Jay-z, and Eminem who refuse to use the effect? And of course with T-Pain claiming he should be paid royalties when artist use it, it seems auto-tune may indeed be on its way out, but not with out a fight seeing as how most of Lil Wayne’s Young Money label seems to be based around the auto-tune effect.

Either way where is the futere of hip hop headed is it really going to fall to auto-tune? Will the fresh young rappers truimph? Will Kanye’s and Kid Cudi’s soulfull flow be it? Or maybe young moneys enormous momentum take over the rap game? I Guess we will just have to wait and see like Hova said “Standing back from situations gives you the perfect view”
