Jazz Music

The roots of Jazz can be traced back to the time when African-Americans were treated as slaves. The slaves had created these songs as a way to express their strong religious belief and wish for freedom. Not all songs that were used to create Jazz were so meaningful; some of the songs were just work songs. During the 1900s New Orleans became populated with people from all over Europe. At this time that African-Americans took pieces of music from each culture, including their own, and used it form a style. This new style of music became known as Jazz. Jazz ended when in WWII many jazz singers were drafted for the war.
