Perhaps you’ve always wanted to sing but things didn’t go that way. You keep dreaming of singing and you start to believe what people are telling you. They may say that you’re too old.

It’s true that most singers start out young. There are some who have the desire to become a singer but experienced some drastic changes in their lives. They may continue singing in their showers or in front of their friends. People may say that it’s impossible to start singing in your thirties but that’s not true. Mama Debarge is in her seventies and that didn’t stop her from pursuing her singing career. If you have the desire to do something than go for it. It may not be easy but if you keep at it, it can be done.
Singing requires a lot of skill and practice, one must be dedicated to this craft. It really doesn’t matter what age you are. You can do it, if you just believe. You must be willing to put in the time and effort. It is essential that you have tough skin because doors maybe shut in your face but don’t allow that to discourage you. If you are fifty plus, so what! Sing is you desire no matter what people have to say. Find a vocal coach and be on your way. There are PR’s waiting to hear from you. If you have the talent than they won’t care what age you are. Make sure you have a music manager t your side.
People will have their opinions always. You want to hear about what needs improvement but never listen to discouragement. If singing is what you want to do than do it! Some of the reasons why people re so unhappy is because they did not follow their dreams. Follow your dream and stay on the right track. Ir you do make it, please don’t get caught up in the evils of the music business.

I look at our Singers like Aretha, Dionne Warwick, the late Teena Marie, the distinguished Al Greene and it seems that all of them now cannot hit the high notes the way we have come to love. Younger, I could hit no notes because I was a cigarette smoker. I have done with smoking for 14 years and now hit notes I didn’t think I could. Still, whatever you have a passion to do you can do and there are indeed no age restrictions. I set Marla Gibbs as a Prime example of getting started late as an Actress. By the way, she’s older than me of course but came from Chi Town. No, there are no limits when we believe.

I’ve been singing all my life- just sang this morning at church as I do every Sunday, but never thought I could make a career of it. Now, my chosen career (engineering) has lost a lot of its appeal and I wonder if now would be the time to pursue it. I’m 49, but I don’t think that is the hindrance it used to be.

very true. and with decline of arts and music sales, I think the more evolved and mature artists (and humans) of our time may be what will save the masses & the music business…
