Why Music Relaxes Me

Does music really have the power to relax and give peace of mind to those who are stressed?

According to Wikipedia, music is an art form whose medium is sound. Pitch, rhythm, dynamics, melody, timbre and texture are the essential components of sound that forms music.

Some people say that they can tell who you are by telling them your favorite type of music. Also, they say that you listen to a type of music depending on what you feel and on what situation you are into.

For me, every time I feel sad and lonely, I used to listen to mellow music and love songs. If I’m happy and alive, I used to listen to dance, hip hop and alternative music. Every time I go to sleep, as much as possible, I used to have a music background while I sleep until I wake up. The songs that I play when I am asleep are mellow, oldie love songs.

Every time I listen to music, I feel better and relaxed. I wonder how and why music soothes me. Is it because I am a music lover? Or is it because music has the power to boost and control ones feeling and emotions as well as changing someones mood?

I also notice that if a person is sad and when a sad music plays, it will increase the person’s sadness until he or she cries. The question is still why?
