Artists that create music as a lively hood know the secrets of what it takes to create a support base for their music.  With this article I want to give you some suggestions or things to think about as songwriters to produce the best opportunities for your music.

What is it about you

There are thousands of artists out there that create music.  Some do it for a hobby and release it for free while others use their talent to support themselves.  You have to think in terms of knowing, “What is it about me that attracts an audience?”.  When you figure out this puzzle and put it together properly you can create your image around it.   Your music then will have an approach as you give your audience what it was looking for when it found you, and hopefully sustain it.

Don’t Be Called a “Copy Cat”

Many times artist are under the assumption that they have to sound a certain way of look a certain way to gain fame or notoriety.  This is very far from the truth.  The truth is the “copy-cats” get scraps off copying a true figure.  Think about it.  If people wanted a certain sound from music, wouldn’t they go to the source?  This could hurt your career as times change.  Because as the artist that is receiving the mockery changes, the copy cats become stuck into emulating what they were and not themselves.

What’s the Bottom Line?

Ask yourself as you create your music “What am I giving the world with what I do?”.  What is it that a fan or friend can take home from what it is that you do?  Is it Entertainment, is it euphoria, is it medicine, or is it knowledge.  Ask yourself this question daily as you create.  When you understand the formula things will start to fall in place.

Asking questions are the best ways to see your reflections through the music you create.  By having inquiries about how and why you create put in the best position to create the best music possible for a lasting career.
