Nowadays, songs have a role to play in almost every sphere of human activity. What better way to remember the best ones then to reminisce about what made them so wonderful?
The pace of life in town and city today, has been characterized as rush, rush, and more rush to do more and more things in as short a time as possible, undeniably this situation has caused us not being able to enjoy life fully. Here, songs play a vital role to comfort the vulnerable spirit, conflict and turmoil in everybody’s heart.
Good songs not only entertain to hear, but also a good therapy to relieve stress and agony of life. Nowadays, songs have a role to play in almost every sphere of human activity. What better thing than good songs do we have to sit down and reminisce on once in a while? Indeed, the songs are there every day for us to behold and all we have to do is to listen attentively.

Yesterday Once More: Memories of the Carpenters and Their Music is one of my top favorite songs. It was written by Richard Carpenter and John Bettis which turned out to be a hit song from an album of Now & Then. The lyrics left you a marvelous memory of being young. All ages from the young till the old like to listen to this song. I highly recommend this song for an English beginner learner as its English lyric is easily to understand. Additionally, it has a very beautiful rhythm which shows the beauty of art. You can listen to the song of Yesterday Once More here.
When I was young
Id listened to the radio
Waitin for my favorite songs
Waiting they played I’d sing along
It made me smile
Those were such happy times
And not so long ago
How I wondered where theyd gone
But theyre back again
Just like a long lost friend
All the songs I loved so well
(*) every sha-la-la-la
Every wo-wo-wo
Still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That theyre starting to sings
So fine
When they get to the part
Where hes breakin her heart
It can really make me cry
Just like before
Its yesterday once more
Lookin back on how it was
In years gone by
And the good times that I had
Makes today seem rather sad
So much has changed
It was songs of love that
I would sing to then
And Id memorize each word
Those old melodies
Still sound so good to me
As they melt the years away
Repeat (*)
All my best memories
Come back clearly to me
Some can even make me cry
Just like before
Its yesterday once more

“Right Here Waiting” is my favorite English song, too. It is a ballad recorded by Richard Marx which hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and number two in the UK. It was also placed as the top of Billboard’s Hot Adult Contemporary Recurrents chart from 2000 to 2003. Indeed, I prefer to keep my ears to listen to this song over and over during my pastime to entertain myself. I believe that this is the most enduring song after its release for so many years ago. You can listen to this song here.
Oceans apart day after day
And I slowly go insane
I hear your voice on the line
But it doesnt stop the pain
If I see you next to never
How can we say forever
Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you
Whatever it takes
Or how my heart breaks
I will be right here waiting for you
I took for granted, all the times
That I thought would last somehow
I hear the laughter, I taste the tears
But I can’t get near you now
Oh, can’t you see it baby
You’ve got me going crazy
Repeat chorus
I wonder how we can survive
This romance
But in the end if I’m with you
I’ll take the chance
Oh, can’t you see it baby
You’ve got me going crazy
Repeat chorus

“My Heart Will Go On” is the theme song of Titanic film screened in 1997 with its lyric by Will Jennings, music by James Horner and it was originally released on Céline Dion album Let’s Talk About Love in 1997. This song has emerged as the number one hit song all over the world. It was recorded that My Heart Will Go On has been ranked as the fourteen most successful songs in music history in March, 2007 by the United World Chart. Nothing on earth can beat the love between Jack and Ross even the life was near to the death. It is such a powerful love song I have ever listened in my lifetime. You can listen to this song here.
Every night in my dreams
I see you, I feel you
That is how I know you go on
Far across the distance and spaces between us
You have come to show you go on
Near far wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you’re here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
Love can touch us one time and last for a lifetime
And never let go till we’re gone
Love was when I loved you
One true time I hold you
In my life we’ll always go on
Near far wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you’re here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
You’re here, there’s nothing I fear
And I know that my heart will go on
We’ll stay forever this way
You are safe in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

Look into my eyes you will see
What you mean to me
Search your heart search your soul
And when you find me there you’ll search no more
Don’t tell me it’s not worth tryin’ for
You can’t tell me it’s not worth dyin’ for
You know it’s true
Everything I do I do it for you
Look into your heart you will find
There’s nothin’ there to hide
Take me as I am take my life
I would give it all I would sacrifice
Don’t tell me it’s not worth fightin’ for
I can’t help it there’s nothin’ I want more
Ya know it’s true
Everything I do I do it for you
There’s no love like your love
And no other could give more love
There’s nowhere unless you’re there
All the time all the way
Oh you can’t tell me it’s not worth tryin’ for
I can’t help it there’s nothin’ I want more
I would fight for you I’d lie for you
Walk the wire for you Ya I’d die for you
Ya know it’s true
Everything I do I do it for you

If I had to live my life without you near me
The days would all be empty
The nights would seem so long
With you I see forever oh so clearly
I might have been in love before
But it never felt this strong
Our dreams are young
And we both know they’ll take us
Where we want to go
(Chorus 1)
Hold me now
Touch me now
I don’t want to live without you
(Chorus 2)
Nothing’s gonna change my love for you
You ought know by now how much I love you
One thing you can be sure of
I’ll never ask for more than your love
(Chorus 3)
Nothing’s gonna change my love for you
You ought know by now how much I love you
The world may change my whole life through
But nothing’s gonna change my love for you
If the road ahead is not so easy,
Our love will lead the way for us
Like a guiding star
I’ll be there for you if you should need me
You don’t have to change a thing
I love you just the way you are
So come with me and share the view
I’ll help you see forever too
(Repeat Chorus 1)
(Repeat Chorus 2)
(Repeat Chorus 3)
(Repeat Chorus 2) (2X)
(Repeat Chorus 3)
(Repeat Chorus 2)

“I Will Always Love You” is a song written by Dolly Parton in 1973 but was first released a year later. It is a song recorded by American singer, Whitney Houston. If I should stay..
Well I would only be in your way…
And so I’ll go and yet I know..
That I’ll think of you
Each step of my way…
And I will always love you..
I will always love you..
Bittersweet memories..
That’s all I have and
All I’m taking with me..
So goodbye, please don’t cry..
Cause we both know that
I’m not what you need…
But I will always love you..
I will always love you..
And I hope life will treat you kind..
And I hope that you have
All you ever dreamed of..
Oh, I do wish you joy..
And I wish you happiness..
But above all this, I wish you love..
I love you..
I will always love you…
I, I will always, always love you..
I will always love you..
I will always love you…
I will always….

“The Sound of Silence” is a song written by Paul Simon in 1963. The lyric reflects an emotional trauma that can be felt by anyone who listens to this song. It was originally recorded as an acoustic guitar piece on the first album of Simon and Garfunkel, Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. Later, in 1966, this song was included in the album of Sounds of Silence. This song has been used in the films of Bobby and The Graduate. You can listen to this song here.
Hello darkness, my old friend
I’ve come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I wa-as sleeping
And the vision that was planted
In my brain, still remai-ains
Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
‘Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash
Of a neon light, that split the ni-ight
And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs tha-at voices
Never share, and no one dare-are
Disturb the sound of silence
Fools said I, you do not know
Silence like the cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said The words of the prophet
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sounds of silence

It had been raked as number 2 on the Hot 100 Airplay, number 3 on the Hot Singles Sales, and number sixteen on the Hot 100. It is indeed the best song worth listening in anyplace and at any time. You can listen to this song here.
Well, I can’t forget this evening
And your face when you were leaving
But I guess that’s just the way the story goes
You always smile, but in your eyes your sorrow shows
Yes, it shows
Well, I can’t forget tomorrow
When I think of all my sorrow
I had you there, but then I let you go
And now it’s only fair that I should let you know
What you should know
CHORUS:
I can’t live, if living is without you
I can’t live, I can’t give anymore
I can’t live, if living is without you
I can’t live, I can’t give anymore
Well, I can’t forget this evening
And your face when you were leaving
But I guess that’s just the way the story goes
You always smile, but in your eyes your sorrow shows
Yes, it shows
CHORUS 3 times
I can’t live, if living is without you.

No New Year’s day to celebrate
No chocolate covered candy hearts to give away
No first of spring
No song to sing
In fact here’s just another ordinary day
No April rain
No flowers bloom
No wedding Saturday within the month of June
But what it is, is something true
Made up of these three words that I must say to you
I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart
No summer’s high
No warm July
No harvest moon to light one tender August night
No autumn breeze
No falling leaves
Not even time for birds to fly to southern skies
No Libra sun
No Halloween
No giving thanks to all the Christmas joy you bring
But what it is, though old so new
To fill your heart like no three words could ever do
I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart
I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care, I do
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart
Of my heart,
…… of my heart

Nice list Chan. I Will Always Love You though, is a Dolly Parton song. And although the words themselves are beautiful, the reason behind Dolly writing it is a complete tear jerker.
