The Musician “Prince”

Prince still whining about the music industry.

Okay.

I love Prince, yes I will go on record and say that next to Stevie Wonder he is one of the greatest song writers, musicians and performers of our time.  I saw an excerpt from Tavis Smiley’s show last evening(4.24.09) of an interview that he did with Prince that will air on monday 4.27.09 and tuesday 4.28.09.  He is still venting his rage and anger about the music industry and how they screw the artists over and you never really know how many copies of songs and albums you have sold.

Prince, we love you, really, we are your long time fans but guy let it be just let it be.  You’re making millions and millions of dollars and you are a survivor, but your continue whining about the music industry and how they screw the artists is getting stale, it is old and tired.  You are not the first one that the music industry has ripped off, think of the others long before you who were ripped off and died broke and ended up doing regular work like most of we middle class people, or died in the gutter as a result of drug use like Frankie Lymon for example.  I have never heard Al Green ever complain about the music industry, or The Temptations, Janis Ian, Gino Vannelli or thousands of other bands and musicians who I still love and admire, and they are still out there rocking and doing their own thing either via a regular record deal, or on their own label like Janis Ian’s Rude Girl Records.

You should be grateful that you are who you are and that the Lord blessed you with the talent that you have. As you said on Tavis Smiley’s show you taught yourself to play various instruments, kudos for you.  You do not have a hands on training as I do with classical piano, you are self taught, you are a genius and you’re talented, but this whining of yours is getting to be pretty pathetic.  You need to let it go and go forward.  You made a deal with Target to carry your latest release, a 3 cd set with a great price and it debuted at number two on Billboard, enjoy your latest success and rest on your laurels for a change.

This consistent whining of yours is childish and embarrassing, we all know how you feel about this issue and we all know of your issues that you have with Warner Brothers, but some of us also know that Warner Brothers gave you a contract when you were only 16 years of age.  Think of the other talented musicians before you and after you who never got a recording contract.  I think that you should be grateful for what Warner Brothers did for you and what you learned about the business over the years, as a result of being in the music business, and remember it can always be worse.  Prince, stop the whining please you have more class than that, so I thought.
