Songs that could probably make even a grown man cry.
There are probably more than this, but I don’t think there are any that are sadder.
This first song came out when I was married to my first wife. We had been married for about 6 years when I first heard it, and I thought to myself, wow that would really suck.
“What did you think, I would do at this moment, when you’re standin before me, with tears in your eyes. Tryin to tell me that you, have found you another, and you just don’t love me no more.” WOW! what an opening line, I thought to myself that would be the worst thing in the world. Then just a couple short years later, it happened to me. I loved this woman more than anything in the world and I was willing to try and work it out. But, she didn’t want to, she loved me but wasn’t in love with me anymore. Then comes the line “Did you think I would curse you or say things to hurt you cause you just don’t love me no more.” ” I’d fall down on my knees, kiss the ground that you walk on baby, if I could just hold you again.” I don’t know what this guy did to drive his lady away, but in my circumstance I know that I was just trying to hold on too tight. I smothered a woman that needed lots of space, and it pushed her away from me.
So she files for a divorce and I here this song on the radio on the way home from the court house.
In this song he says “I left the court room and went straight to the church, I hit my knees and told God how much I hurt. There’s nothing left of my heart, its gonna be so hard to make a new start.” Another powerful couple of lines, whenever I hear this song, I almost every time see in my minds eye, a guy staggering up to the front of the church obviously in pain and dropping to his knees and weeping. George Straight re-released this song as I was going through my second divorce. Ha Ha real funny George, I still like Verns version better. Here again my fault, after my first divorce I decided that I was going to give this wife plenty of room, but silly me this one actually wanted me to give her allot of extra attention.
