The thrill of being in a band is something I can never forget.
I remember being in a band for the very first time, wow, could this be for real. Before any of this actually happened in my teens I may add, I would singalong to songs that played on our record player in the back room of our weather board house. We boys the four brothers at the time although the fourth came along in the sixties. We bought plenty of albums and our stack sat upon a wonderfully structured wood board cupboard that looked antique in a way as it has always been there. It is still there to this day. I recall one of my brothers would seem to buy a new record as in an album of a late Friday night shopping spree. They were all good ones it must have been some luck or prior knowing as they were great listening tunes.
I would sing along to The Beatles and Paul McCartney and John Lennon as solo artists.I Liked Spectrum in Australia who reversed their name to Murtseps equally great with Mike Rudd as the front man for the band. I would go to concerts with friends and if no-one was able to go with me I would go alone, especially to see Daddy Cool in Melbourne. I was always keen on singing and would tape record my voice playing it back to see how I sounded and worried if I strained my vocal chords. I was always keen in a church choir as a little tacker and continued later in life with hymns.
There was a band who played in a garage of which I knew of as well as my friends knew as well. They would share singing around to a couple being a drummer and guitarist. I was at home one evening with my brother Tony listening to our radio. We noticed two of the band members nick and Joe coming to see us at this time.I thought it was unusual for them to come at this time, especially Nick, Joe was more of a free reigned spirit we got to know. They came in through the back entrance and came in to see us. They asked me if I would join the band as the new singer, I was over the moon and accepted before the end of the sentence really. There was a condition and that was to go to a singing teacher to refine my voice and so nick could see the value of his singer. Of course I would be pleased and even had a lady to teach me in mind. My brother said he knew they had come for that very reason,I for one had no idea.

What else could be as exciting to a teenager as a band? It’s the most wonderful thing in the world for a youngster to participate in a band.
