A tribute to the breathtaking performance of Josh Groban on his “Awake” album and World Tour.
Josh Groban’s recent “Awake” album is one of his best works so far. The album showcases a great versatility in his flawless and exquisite voice. Josh has experimented with different styles and sounds delivering a brilliant result in each of the songs. He has stretched his creative boundaries by collaborating with singers who showcase a style of music that is quite different to his own. This combination has produced a spectacular outcome which he demonstrated on his “Awake” World Tour of 2007.

From the beautiful “Un Dia Llegara” to the brilliant “Machine” with Herbie Hancock, Groban mesmerises his audience with the great versatility he delivers. He has also co-written and co-produced several songs on the album, including the beautiful “February Song”. The brilliant “Weeping” takes me back to my roots as Josh performed this song with one of South Africa’s leading musical artists, “Ladysmith Black Mambazo”.It was during Groban’s 2005 concert tour to South Africa that he heard the song “Weeping” for the first time. He also had the privilege of meeting the inspirational Nelson Mandela during this time. Josh was appointed an official ambassador for Mandela’s Project 46664. This campaign helps to raise global awareness of HIV/AIDS in Africa.

I am very honoured to have been at the “Awake” World Tour when Josh performed in Perth, Western Australia. It was a privilege to witness as Josh made his debut on Australian soil. All of his concerts were sell-outs and I was honoured to get a front-row seat. Seeing Josh perform live is one of the most breathtaking experiences on earth. His voice is exactly the same as listening to him on a cd, which I really found amazing. I really appreciated the authenticity and originality of his voice on stage. His ablility to engage and connect with the audience is brilliant, as well as his amazing wit and sense of humour. His vocal prowess shines as he delivers song after song.

Opening the concert with the beautiful “You are Loved (Don’t give up)” set the stage for a very powerful and uplifting show. The audience was totally mesmerised by his flawless vocal performance. He surprised everyone when he ended the show with his talented display of playing the drums- and very fast! His multi-talented persona leaves his legion of fans with a lot to look forward to in the future. He is also a very talented piano player which he demonstrated quite beautifully in some of his performances.
The “Awake” album and World Tour was a real awakening by Groban’s fans to the amazing creative possiblities that Josh is capable of producing. We look forward to bigger and more phenomenal performances in the future as we wish Josh the very best in his future endeavours. We,the fans, sit back in great anticipation as we wait for the “next big thing” to take place.
