Ten Songs I Would Love to Hear Susan Boyle Sing!

I am one of the millions of insignificant people in the world that were mesmerized by the voice of an angel. The angel came in the form of a funny little woman full of life and love and the enthusiasm of a child that is so often squashed by the time a person reaches middle age. But this angel rose above and showed us all just how far a little courage and a carefully crafted talent can take you.

Ten Songs I would love to hear Susan Boyle Sing!

By Brad O’Neill

For the 3 people in the world who don’t know who I am talking about or who haven’t seen her magnificent performance here it is.

Listening to her I began to wonder what other songs those beautiful vocal cords could wrap themselves around and belt out, I began to search through some of my favorite old songs and imagining just how wonderful they would be sung through her golden pipes.

1.       Memory as sung by Elaine Paige Susan claimed she wanted to be as successful as Elaine Paige so it only makes sense to see how she would do with one of Elaines songs.

a.       Memory sung by Susan Boyle   Oh look we are in luck she actually did sing this song!  Take a listen and try not to smile I dare you.

2.       Don’t cry for me Argentina- Madonna really did a wonderful job with this song others have tried it including Sinead O’Connor but I believe Madonna’s version is the best.   I think Susan could perform this song incredibly.

3.       Titanic Theme song- Celine Dion- Yes following Celine is nearly impossible but hey if you want to be the best you have to challenge the best right?  Ok this one will be tough but I am sure I would thoroughly enjoy a rendition by Susan.

4.       The Rose- Bette Midler I think Bette and Susan would get along famously.  There is just that little bit of gumption in the two of them that would leave everyone else in the room in the dust.

5.       Danny Boy this song has been done by a lot of people most never approach perfection with it but Susan just might be able to pull it off.  I am sure she has sung it at some point where is the tape?

6.       Unchained melody Righteous Brothers.- I presented this together with the movie clip that introduced it to my generation.  What a glorious song and who could resist watching Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze in one of the most romantic scenes ever put on film.

7.       Leaving on a jet plane- John Denver- Maybe it is just me but I really love this song and I think she is one of the few singers that could really do it justice.

The above songs seemed like a natural fit but then I began to wonder how she would do with some other great songs that might be a little outside the box for her.  The first song that came to mind was every rose has its thorn.  I am not sure how it would come out but I would love to hear her version of it.

8.       Every rose has its thorn  -Poison- I know this is pushing the limits a bit further than most people would want to go but when I listen to this I think it would be beautiful coming from a woman.

9.       Mamma I’m coming home-Ozzy Osbourn- I have read a lot about Susan and her relationship with her mother.  This would be an awesome tribute to her mother and I think Susan really has found her home in the entertainment business.

10.   Patience by Guns and Roses- I don’t know if she can whistle but I am sure she could carry this tune.  I really think it would be great fun to have her do a song like this.  I know it might make the GNR faithful that haven’t died of an overdose yet sick to their stomachs but hey Susan and Axel could just switch off concerts and they wouldn’t have to refund so many ticket sales.

I hope you enjoyed this trip into musical fantasy land as much as I did.  I am a fan of Susan’s and I really hope she goes on to great things.  The truth is she has already shared both her beautiful voice and an incredible story that is an inspiration to people all over the world.  There is something amazing about a person getting one shot at success and pulling it off so flawlessly.  Whatever she chooses to do in the future she has inspired me and made my life better through her courage and her voice and for that I am grateful.
