Really talented youngsters.
I read recently about a composer and conductor:
Alex Prior, 15 year old London boy who is a music writer and conductor. He has been to Moscow to conduct a performance of his ballet. Amazingly talented and already internationally famous.

These kids are amazing. Such talents. I used to have an eight year old girl in my class whose school work was quite poor but give her a violin and she was a real prodigy. You wouldn’t believe it was the same child. Good work.

Kids seem to relate to music. I think it should be a requirement in school curriculum. I know that when my son was having issues at school, the one thing that kept him in balance was his playing his saxophone. He always looked forward to band class. He started playing like he was born to play. Great article, BC.

I think I’ve seen that last one in a documentary. BTW you’ve got a typo, “Eight year old guitar player stunts . . .” instead of “stuns.”
Cool article.

I guess they are born with the music in them! Good article.

I think most kids are born with the music in them. I agree, it should be a requiremant, and the younger the better! Studies have shown how much music aids small children, even en utero, with relaxation and such. Thanks, BC, for this article.

BC,
Excellent article. I believe that everyone should encourage these young musicians, and what better way to do that than this article. I knew a kid in our neighborhood when I was growing up that started learning to play guitar at age five. By the time he was nine, he was fantastic. I saw him back during the summer, and he told me he was getting ready to tour with Brooks and Dunn. He is one fabulous musician. Lets hope these young talented musicians are successful. Theirs nothing like a kid with talent that can out play some of the best musicians in the business. That’s really awesome Again, great work on this article BC.

What great kids – and what great opportunities they have had to learn music while they were young. None of my family was musical and I had to store up music inside me until I was old enough to teach myself to play a ukulele which my family hated and said they hated my voice – I had to go and ’screech’ outside – so now, at 60, I am at last able to play and sing some of the music I hear inside!! Youngsters like this need all the encouragement and help they can get and they will indeed go far!

Amazingly talented kids from all over. I’ve heard of a 10 year-old piano player and Tallan Latz the guitarist, but the others are new to me. You’ve done a remarkable job with this article, BC! A very interesting article well worth the read!

There are a lot of young and talented piano players out there also. (Unfortunately, we live in a guitar dominated world). Derek Trucks was very young when he started, but he also grew up around the Allman Brothers.
Glynis Smy January 31st, 2009 at 7:30 am
I envy their talents! Interesting article, thanks.

BC,
Two other excellent musicians who got their start very young is Danny, and David Towler. They are brothers that played with the Allman Brothers band. They lived behind us across the alley. When their parents weren’t home they would get out on the roof outside of their bedroom and play for all the kids in the neighborhood. Danny plays guitar and David plays drums. They were very good musicians even then. My cousin Jack used to run around with them.
Their talent is an example of why its good to start children out young playing music.
Randy
P.S. Thought you might like this little tidbit about young musicians.
