A selection of songs that will no doubt bring a tear to your eyes.
Just as music can make you happy, it can make you sad. When going through a tough time, it can help to know that you are not alone.
Of course, these are different for everyone. Maybe it is a song your ex loved, or a lost loved one’s favorite tune which makes you weep, here I have tried to find universally sad songs. Grab your tissues and enjoy.
Calling All Angels – Jane Sibbery
This song is taken from the end of the movie Pay it Forward, one of the saddest films I have ever watched. It also appeared in the film Until the End of The World. It is a beautiful and touching song which always moves me to tears.
Silent All These Years – Tori Amos
This is a truly beautiful song, and really touches my heart. Tori wrote this to express her inner rage following being raped, but I think it can have different interpretations for different people. I think a lot of people, in particular women can relate to the feeling of not being able to express how they really feel.
Hurt – Johnny Cash
This take on the Nine Inch Nails original is one of Cash’s final releases before his death. This video, featuring images from his life, won both a Grammy Award and Country Music Award for best video.
Nothing Compares 2 U – Sinead O’ Connor
I defy anyone to watch this video without crying. The emotion in Sinead’s voice and face are real. The tears at the end were, according to Sinead caused by the lyric “All the flowers that you planted, Mama in the back yard, All died when you went away.’ because of her very complex relationship with her late mother.
Chemo Limo – Regina Spektor
This song gives me goosebumps. Listen to the lyrics, they are filled with pain. It is a truly beautiful song.
