The Mighty Four of the Temptations.

We, all agree that the Temptations, has always been consider, a five man lead singer group. If, only four deserve that honor out, of the Classic five. It became more apparent, after the dynamic David Ruffin, was dismissed, by Berry Gordy, that Paul Williams could sing Ruffin lead songs. The only big differences was the arrangement and style the song production required.
With Ruffin, as lead the songs was giving a sweeter arrangement because his style was that, of a firey preacher bringing the message alive. Which William could do, but with a different approach and effect. We only give Melvin Franklin, a wash over in terms, of his bass vocalist voice.
But, he was the church feeling that the group required and, one that Smokey Robinson admitted to have fun producing them during their days, of his producing. Eddie Kendrick, was the glue that set them up to be different , from other groups in the field, of music. And, even at Motown because except, for the Marvellettes and the Spinners, who wasn’t a major success, at Motown most group center around one lead singer.
The tops had Levi, the Supremes, had you know who? Even, Smokey own Miracles had him featured more on hits. The Monitors had Richard(future Temptation)Street. And, of course Martha Reeves , led the mighty Vandellas.
While, the Temptations had the vocalists that could lead, if any other couldn’t because, of vocal problems. While Otis Williams could handle leads it seems the producers wasn’t too sold on his lead singing, but than his importance was in staying within his guidelines, as a member.
Although limited minded people seems comfortable in professing him to be the sole founder. Which shows their limited imagination.
