Reflections About The Song “Yesterday”

This well known composition is truly a masterpiece. In this article you will be able to read my take on this piece of music.

Paul McCartney. Maybe the name says it all and maybe he do not need any further introduction. However, many people that has heard him sing “Yesterday” has yet to find out what the meaning is behind this song.

For people born after the “Golden years” of The Beatles, such as myself, it is interesting to know that this particular song was actually the ’stepping stone’ towards gaining attention from a mass adult market. They had alot of younger fans already but had not yet appealed to a large amount of adults with their music.

For me, who did not live through this era of great music, hippies with long hair and colorful garments, “Yesterday” is somewhat a break from the otherwise not so pollished Beatles-sound. It feels like Paul McCartney is taking a breather from the 60s, just in that moment in the recording studio. Now, I might be wrong (but is there a right or wrong here?)

What kind of footprint did this song leave in both the history and the music industry then? Well, for starters, it is the most covered pop song of all time (Guinness Book Of World Records). But to dig a little deeper, I believe that many people, both musicians and non-musicians have been greatly influenced by this song – some maybe without even knowing it themselves.

The composition itself is quite simple although I still believe that this composition will live on for many years to come. It is truly great.

This is just some of my reflections about this song. I felt that I wanted to share it with others. What is your thoughts about this song? Please share it in the comments!

Thank you for reading.
