How future rap is possible affecting people.
Rap Music
By Karine Chen
Everyone loves music, at least pretty much everyone does. But lately, rap music is changing more than ever before. Comparing to how rap all started to now, there are even sexual contents that kids shouldn’t be listening to.
Some say rap originated in the 1970s in the South Bronx area of New York. It was primarily marketed to the African-American community. Others say, rap started in the early 1980’s by the Black Noise, which were the first Hip Hop group from Africa. Even more people say that Ray Charles started R&B and it evolved into rap. History isn’t always written down and it may not always be accurate, so no one can really be sure what really happened.
But recent rap is including more and more lyrics not suited for minors, and more headaches for the elders. Seriously, just by Chris Brown’s newest rap song, “She Do It on Me Like”, what does that tell you? Or maybe the song Birthday Sex, does that sound like anything? The radio station KiiS FM 102.7 is a great station with top songs, and I listen to it a lot, but it also repeats the same songs too much. And it’s mainly that station that includes all these songs. Being the number one radio station, everyone listens to it, but people seem to forget that even minors listen to it.
One day I’m just lying on my bed and my radio was on, and then I just hear “tipping on my dick, tipping on my dick”. I went online and look it up and on the yahoo engine, there pops up all these lyrics. Tippin’ on My Dick (Go Go PowerRangers), Dick Please (Little Wayne), Dick in a Box (The Lonely Island), and there’s On My Dick (Plies). It’s just like, what’s with all this “your private” talk? That’s not even the weirdest sexual experience.
Some other day, I was with my friend in the car, and the radio was on. Few minutes later, Lady Gaga’s new song, Love Game comes on, and she starts telling me a story of how her little brother, who was like eight, acted to the song Love Game, last time. She said, he was listening to it, and then he starts singing to it, without knowing what the lyrics meant. When they got home, her older brother come in and grabs her little brother, and the little brother says “I wanna take a ride on your disco stick!” It’s just like oh my gosh, are you serious?!
When I was little, I didn’t even know any of these “terms”. People make even more jokes about it, but it’s not that funny. According to my cousin, it’s called “sex humor”. But look what rap’s created? Even if rap didn’t start all these greenness, it’s still a part of why it’s keeping up. What happened to all the sweet rap music like Bow Wow’s Let Me Hold You, or the Great Tupac Shakur?!
