Analysis of Pop Music Artists.
The audience Amy Winehouse’s video targeted was people who would identify with her lifestyle and have their own love problems. Other audiences could be fans of 60’s and 70’s pop who don’t prefer modern day R&B. Another target audience would also be people who look up to Amy Winehouse as their role model. This could be because they appreciate how she shows her strengths.
My final analysis is on Michael Jackson’s video “Thriller.” Not only is it a music video for a single called “Thriller” it also has a short horror story to spook the spectators. Michael Jackson has a wide variety of different sub-genres in the pop genre. He has: action videos, romance video, adventure videos and this one which is a horror video.” Thriller” is sung by Michael Jackson towards the audience as well as acting out some scenes to frighten the audience. It is firstly set at a cinema at night, but then leads to the streets at a gothic location where monsters and zombies come to life. Michael Jackson wants to freak out the audience with horrible scenes that make them want to watch more. For costume he wears a bright orange pop theme top with matching tight trousers. This is quite unusual for horror scenes however he does look more frightening with it on and it goes perfectly well with the song itself. He uses strong and powerful words to grab the spectator’s attention as well as trying to show its hidden meaning. This is all sounding mysterious, and keep the audience watching.
The audience he target using this video would be younger people who just watch it for entertainment rather than actually listening and understanding his messages and values. They would just listen and watch “Thriller” for escapism and not to identify with him.
The way he sings, acts, dances and talks shows his passion for music whereas when we see Amy Winehouse she just sings to make her music sound good, and her videos are rather more disturbing tan interesting. This is what makes Michael Jackson and Amy Winehouse’s videos different.
