Nothing But……..and Only About…

Discussion of what really matters in music.

It’s been a few months since my last post and since then, some new thoughts have arisen. Is it really “all about the music” like they say, or are listeners (or more like fanatics) really entitled to what goes on outside of an artist’s professional life? Well, first thing is first: artists make music. Their music is what made them famous and therefore, the music is the only thing that should matter. Simple concept right? Apparently, not for everyone. Why do people tend to focus on an artist’s personal quirks/mannerisms before discussing the artist’s songs? Yes, it is true that one spends more time not listening to music than they do actually listening to it. Given that obvious factoid, it would make sense as to why one’s attention to the tunes can easily be distracted. However, that shouldn’t take away from the enjoyment factor of the music. For moi, personally, the artist in performance and the artist in….well….any other arena are two totally separate entities. One is displaying their divine gift for all the world to see, and the other is……..not so important to his or her’s artistry. It’s really that simple: keep it separate. As long as it’s a good song, it’s a good song. Music is music, and artistry is artistry.
