There are quite a few first dance songs that seem to be almost obvious choices because they’re heard at so many weddings. A while ago, I wrote an article about a few songs that aren’t a part of that group – "Not Your Average Wedding Songs." Here are a few more you can add to that list:
1. First Day of My Life – Bright Eyes
This is a simple song with a simple message, but it still says so much. It’s the perfect way to show that your wedding day is the first day of your new life together as you look toward the future. An added perk is that it’s not too long, so you won’t feel like you’re in the spotlight forever. It’s a little more upbeat than most first dance songs; but note that the singers voice may not be pleasing to everybody.
Lyrics:
“Yours is the first face that I saw
I think I was blind before I met you
Now I don’t know where I am
I don’t know where I’ve been
But I know where I want to go.”

2. We Are Man and Wife – Michelle Featherstone
There is really no interpreting needed with this song; it’s pretty self-explanitory in the most beautifully simple of ways, and it’s my favorite choice on this list. These lyrics are just about as perfect and accurate as you can get for a wedding.
Lyrics:
“God has blessed this sacred vow
And angels high above look down
They see the two of us have found
The perfect love.
Cause you are the love of my life
Yeah you are the love of my life
Now we’re man and wife.”

3. Love is a Verb – John Mayer
Fans of John Mayer who have long awaited a first dance-worthy love song from him can breathe a sigh of relief. Unless you consider “Your Body is a Wonderland” to be anything but cheesy, you probably haven’t found a great wedding song among his discography which sometimes seems better suited to the unlucky in love. “Love is a Verb,” off of his latest album (Born and Raised), is about showing love. What better way to show that you love someone than by standing in front of your family and friends as you commit yourselves to each other for life?
Lyrics:
“Love is a verb
It ain’t a thing
It’s not something you hold
It’s not something you scream
When you show me love
I don’t need your words
Yeah, love ain’t a thing
Love is a verb.”

4. I Was Made for You – She and Him
A pefect song for the retro bride, “I Was Made for You” is an upbeat song (definitely more-so than number one on this list). Anyone thinking about going the non-traditional route and having your first dance to a fun, faster song should take this one into consideration.
Lyrics:
“Cause I’ve been waiting for a long long time
For a boy like you
I won’t be waiting anymore cause I know
I was made for you”
