A few nightspots I visited in the good old days.
A winters tale, I can recall a place I used to go with friends to see live bands play before the disco era hit the night spots. The place or one of them was called Bombay rock. I would run up the carpeted stairs to arrive seeing the band already playing having my favourite ones locked away in my memory banks. The lead singer or guitarist would greet the crowd “hello Bombay” wow it was so good to hear that. There was an upstairs as well as a down stairs part and when it was warm they never put on air conditioning forcing the throngs to buy more drinks to cool down but I never saw anyone complain really. One of the nights during the week was a free night but the Fridays and Saturdays were the best the crowds would flow in as the top acts were scheduled on stage. There was a good mixture in the crowd as happy times were had I never saw any problems of any worrying proportions and so it e=was great for us. After the night out we would usually stop off for a bite to eat at the convenience store before going home and of course there were other times we would have other plans flowing such as parties or what nots. I had my favourite bands and if friends weren’t able to go with me I would go alone to see them and meet up later being in a couple of bands when I was younger proved that when you got the bug it never leaves I would check out singers and be thrilled with the craft of some. A friend of mine and I had other venues we would travel to midweek to see musicians on stage and I would like to focus on the singer above all as I had the ear I suppose and appreciated them. I would see the underground performers and wowed at their talent. To see some performers on stage and as they fluctuated between bands changing over into different styles and excelling as it was desired. I met some of my friend’s friends who were playing somewhere else as well. He was talking to his mate I was introduced but felt a bit left out still till the girl singer came over and asked “is this a private party or can I join in to”. Well I was pleased with that, smiled and welcomed her to sit with me. We simply spoke about singing the tones and songs what I had done in my limited way as I had only been in 2 bands who never got out of the garage, but I was amused once where I was to replace a singer who had left and I was to audition. When He found out he quickly returned as the guitarist heard and watched me in the first one. We continued to speak and I had the idea from my perspective to hold the note at the end of a song or perhaps midway as I had heard a female singer do well at a time. She took it on board as we went after they finished their break. It was a good visit although I never saw them again unfortunately. One of our other friends surmised for a moment and realised all these acts I was seeing through the week and it was so true.

Very cool Pete … I was an avid concert goer and clubber in my teenage years … I met some excellent people with similar interests and tastes … we would often meet-up at concerts and band nights … I loved going to “Battle of the Bands” in NZ … oh how I long for that buzz again
