A new legit music download store with local and international artists opened in the Philippines this year. So far, it’s way better than the failed and now-dead “fliptunes” from a few years ago.
It’s new and legal – it opened January 2012. From what I’ve seen today, the selection of local and international artists is good.
The site is: mymusicstore.com.ph
I tried it tonight. I purchased one song.
I only found out the song’s properties after buying and downloading it: the format is MP3, 256 kbps and over 7MB in size – all good. It would have been nice if these were shown in the product description (the format, at least) so specifics are there up front. It might have helped me to decide if I wanted to buy it a lot quicker.
Oh and of course, you can preview a song (QuickTime plug-in required) before buying it.
I was OK with the price; it was 30 pesos for 1 song from an international artist (most cost 35 pesos; and 25 pesos for songs by local artists). Without a doubt, it was more affordable than if I were abroad and used Amazon or 7digital.
It said I had 24 hours to download my purchase. Now, what I understand from that is I can download it unlimited times as long as it is within 24 hours. If that’s correct and my connection dropped on the first try, I still have a chance to get it again – excellent. I haven’t tried to download it twice since it went well the first time. But checking it now, the song is still in “my collection” so I assume I can get it again if I wanted to.
The site in “beta” but as of tonight – apart from needing to put more info on there and maybe using a secure connection on the user’s account page – it looked nice and it was easy to use. I hope they get better over time and more artists join in. I also hope that mymusicstore.com.ph is “it” for a legit music download store in the Philippines at this time.
