My Favorite Christmas Carols

Christmas has dawned and I now have time to think about the songs I enjoyed the most this season!

I’ve been hearing them everywhere – in the shopping malls, on the radio, on TV and even over my iphone. So Here’s a countdown of my top 10 Christmas Carols. I’ll start at number 10 and then count down to no. 1!

10. Silent Night: I love humming this song with someone plucking on guitar strings and others humming the seconds. We loved doing it that way during carol rounds when the pastor said the prayer.

9. Ding Dong Merrily on High: The obvious favorite musical bit is the Glooooooooooooooria!

8. Love Came Down at Christmas: Beautiful twists and turns when you sing this song – also a favorite from my sunday school days!

7. Feliz Navidad: This was our favorite way to wind up carol rounds at a home and enjoyed the actions we put in and someone screaming “Carrambaaaa!” inbetween…

6. See him lying on a bed of straw: The calypso beat and timing make this a great carol!

5. Do You Hear What I Hear?: A very relaxing carol to sing. The transition from the verses to the chorus is beautiful.

4. Away in a manger: Brings back a lot of Sunday Schol memories.

3. Joy to the World: This evergreen carol never ceases to amaze me. I love it sung at the end of a program!

2. O Holy Night: What a challenge to sing this. It takes the best singers to sing this through and keep you enthralled!

1. God Rest Ye Merry gentlemen: Lively and so many ways of doing it! Love hearing it with the men and the ladies singing in turn.

While I have written mainly about the musical aspects of these carols, you will also notice that all of them have lyrics that reflect the actual meaning of Christmas – the birth of Jesus Christ, the Savious of the world!

So that’s my favorites list. What’s yours?
