Most people can find a genre of music they like. But why do they like it?
Hi. If there is someone on this world addicted to Music, it’s probably me. But why do I like it? I’ve been searching for an answer, but I can’t seem to find it. But still, I want to tell you about it.
The genre of music you like, is often heavy influenced by the music you hear. With that I mean to say, the music your parents, friends, and family listen. But, there is one thing that makes people all around the world listen the same music. It’s called, the radio. As I stated before, I can’t seem to find the reason certain people like certain music, but for some reason pop genres are the most liked of all, and pop is heavily influenced by the radio. This could clarify why pop is so popular, because the radio spreads it. And so does television. And, research stated that things you’ve heard, seen, or done whatever with before, have a slightly better chance of you liking them, if you liked it before.
But why do people like music in extreme variants, if this would be the reason people like certain music? Well, I think that’s because people like certain music in certain circumstances. On middle schools rap and hip-hop rises. Not so weird, if you think about it. Hip-hop is often slow music, with people that talk more then sing. This has a kind of relaxed atmosphere. And, people on middle schools are often searching for things that make them relax. It doesn’t matter that middle school isn’t always hard work, it makes many teens stress out, and they seek “relaxment”.
Others on schools like the Metal kind of music. Why? I’ll give you an example.
Let’s say I’ve had a boring and hard day at school. I’ve just done my homework, and brought the advertising flyers for some much needed money. I finally can get to one of my hobbies, that I share with many of my friends: gaming. Then, I need some music that gives me energy, will to do things, instead of going to bed and hope next morning it will be Saturday.
Another reason the really extreme music genres like death metal gain popularity, is because of partying. On those metal festivals things like mosh pits, head banging and that kind of stuff gains popularity. It’s fantastic, and the music helps the “energeticness” of the festivals.
But why do we still like all those music genres when they stop giving us that kick? I don’t know. I’ve some theories about it though, but nothing scientifically confirmed. My theory is as following:
It’s the feeling you get by listening the music. Your mind remembers the music, and gives you the feeling again. For example: When I first played WoW, I got such a kick, I was amazed at how friggin’ cool it was to play with so much people, do so much things, in an open world, with such a story… When I hear the music I heard then, I get the same awesome feeling. The energetic feeling of playing something more then a game, to be part of something exclusive.
Well, that was it for today, I’m going to play SC2, and listen metal of course.
