This is a great list. Thanks for sharing.
Songza May 11th, 2008 at 5:23 am
How about Songza.com. By far the best of the bunch. Bigger library than the others — 28 million!
lautlautlaut May 11th, 2008 at 5:31 am
Poorly selected list, there at least 10 better sites with free (& also downloadable) music sites out there.
Sickr May 11th, 2008 at 6:10 am
Uh, I seriously think you forgot to add The Hype Machine
http://hypem.com/
ben May 11th, 2008 at 7:25 am
What about Muxtape.com? You can’t pick whatever you’re going to listen to but there’s a lot of great stuff on there
Gavin May 11th, 2008 at 8:35 am

Why is that on this list?
miero May 11th, 2008 at 9:03 am

Pandora used to be great- until they started blocking IP’s from outside the US..
Ian Brown May 11th, 2008 at 10:00 am
I agree with lautlautlaut. One really good site is Grooveshark: http://grooveshark.com
collegegirl May 11th, 2008 at 10:39 am
The author of this is obviously not in college. Otherwise, Ruckus.com would no doubt be #1. My friends all over the country download free music legally, as do all of their classmates. All you need is an address with .edu
Jennifer May 11th, 2008 at 11:27 am
musicovery.com
check it out!
and Ruckus is amazing, but like someone said, you have to be in college to use it.
Heidi May 11th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
You forgot to add garageband.com Artists will let you download their mp3’s. Well some of the Artists do.
Randy May 11th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
slacker.com
Aaron May 11th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
I love Pandora! I’ve discovered countless numbers of my favorite bands on there and they even have a lot of bands and artists that most online radios don’t have and a whole lot that iTunes doesn’t even have.
AaronWhite May 11th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
rhapsody.com, which is the music source behind some of the sites on this list, works on Mac and Linux.

I recommend http://www.supernova.com if you’re the type to explore music from relatively unheard artists, and enjoy discovering the next big band to hit the scene.
Supernova.com has over 20,000 amazing artists you’ve probably never heard of, but will soon! Also lots of categorization and playlists to browse, all free, plus photos and videos and a way to chat with the bands directly. Cooooool.
