Today music has become a huge hobby for many people. It has changed a lot in the last one hundred years.

Popular music started out with classical music and moved up onto the rock genre. Now the rock genre has evolved into the Alternative, Punk and Metal genres. Those three genres, in my opinion are some of the most popular today.

In today’s music there are many popular genres. Without the Alternative Rock genre there would not be some of the new genres we have today. Alternative has evolved from smaller genres such as indie and grudge genres. Alternative Rock first came to the UK in 1980. It became a real hit in the 1990’s because of a bands success called Nirvana. Two of Alternative Rocks bigger bands that are popular today are R.E.M. and The Cure. Today Alternative Rock has evolved into the music genre Punk Rock.

In today’s popular music Punk Rock is one of the largest genres. Punk Rock focuses on today’s world’s problems such as war and government problems. Some of the more popular bands that focus on those problems are Billy Talent and Greenday. Punk Rock has deeper cords and lyrics like the Metal genre. Because of its lyrics, they can relate to many peoples problems into today’s world, which gives Punk Rock a massive fan base.

In today’s popular music, the Metal genre is by far one of the most listened to. The Metal genre is a type of music with a dark side to it. The guitar notes are much deeper, and so are the lyrics. The Metal genre has many genres that belong to it like hard, math, screamo and horror core. One of the bands that first made Metal popular was Black Sabbath, who drew people in with there darker sounds. Without the Metal genre today’s music would not exist.

In today’s popular music there are three genres’ that evolved from each other. Those three genres are Alternative Rock, Punk Rock and Metal. Music genres have changed a lot in the past one hundred years. From classical music all the way to Metal. Who knows what today’s music will be like in one hundred years.

I really feel it’s where you are coming from most people enjoy a lot of the main stream but also enjoy the classics. No matter what genre its about your background and what influences you.
