Once you have gotten your group together and have some set music it times to get out into the world. But before you can go, there are a few steps you need to take…

Ok. The band is together, you have all come up with 10 or more songs with vocals. You’re all feeling rather proud of yourselves and are thinking about getting out and doing shows and gigs and maybe making some money!

Hold on! You’re missing something!

Have you promoted your music? If you haven’t, you’re sure to find that your start in the music industry will be very slow. How is anyone going to know about your music, or where you’re playing, or even that you exist, if you don’t promote your music?

In the music biz, this is generally known as P.R. work (public relations). It includes getting the word out that you guys are live and ready to appease their ears. It also includes getting a small fan base going, and getting in touch with people who can help you on your way to “Rock-Stardom“.

Whether you have already started, or need help on idea’s of how to get started promoting your band, were going to go over some basic steps you can take to get Free Publicity.

In order to spread the word as quickly as you can, we need to use the best gossip spreader in the world (no, not your sister!), the internet!

Social Networking Sites

If you haven’t already noticed, social networking sites have become the world’s largest source of information. You can find out what sort of underwear brad pit wears on Tuesdays, or get in depth info on the China’s disappearing bean supply.

If you don’t already have a Myspace page, get one! Myspace has become one of the most popular venues for musicians looking for a small fan base. You can’t count on everyone on your friends list to come to your shows or buy your CD’s, but the more people who have a chance to hear you, the more chances you have to sell and promote.
