Rock band Journey rocks the world in sold-out arenas, new music masterpieces, some surprises and minor incidents. New singer Arnel Pineda’s voice soars high and Neal Schon’s guitar riffs rule again.

Legendary super rock band Journey launched their 2011 world tour to promote their newest album “Eclipse” in the United States – at Planet Hollywood (Feb. 23) and at Reno (Feb. 25) – both in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. They then toured Central and South America in sold-out concerts rocking the cities of Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Venezuela, Guatemala, Panama, Mexico and Puerto Rico.

The band introduced some of their tracks from their “Eclipse” album during the tour – “Resonate”, “Edge of the Moment”, “City of Hope”, “Chain of Love” and “Tantra”. Since the album was launched and available on sale only last May 24, the fans were generally quiet during the playing of these new songs just trying to feel the beat and message of unfamiliar new Journey creations. Pineda’s voice soared in these new tracks together with the unique riffs of rock guitar god Neal Schon which the fans cheered and appreciated after.

Arnel Pineda’s amazing voice now begins to veer away from being identified with former singer Steve Perry with the new songs. What brought the house down from each stop of the tour were always the band’s greatest hits which Pineda perfectly and energetically delivered – from “Separate Ways” to “Don’t Stop Believing”.  The other members of the band are Jonathan Cain on keyboards, Ross Valory on bass guitar and Deen Castronovo on drums.

Journey brought in some surprises in the new tour.  Aside from their new music masterpieces, the concert stage background are made of animated screen grids flashing colorful images. Pineda also surprisingly made a dash amidst the fans inside the concert arena in one of their stops – shaking hands, giving high fives, photographed, hugged and kissed.

Pineda’s emotional rendition of Jonathan Cain’s composition “Tantra” wowed the fans and showed his extraordinary singing ability.

There were also reports of some incidents like one fan throwing a bottle of beer at Pineda in one concert in Germany. The fan was immediately removed from the area by the venue security while the rest of the fans, disgusted in what he did, threw beers at him while being taken away.

The band is now in the middle of their tour in the cities of Europe with the other bands like Foreigner and Styx – United Kingdom, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France and the Netherlands. The last leg of the tour will be back in the United States.
