The greatest thing any vocalist can be bless with is a writer, who loves to craft sounds according to your vocals. And with William(Smokey)Robinson, as the group assigned writer, he was blessed by having a writer who could do that and more.

Sure, we know the Temptations, went through a trial of error before achieving the success to place them at the top of the chart. But, they under Kendrick, smooth falsetta/tenor  was the object of admiration for success.

The Moments, The Stylistics, The Chi-lites, Blue Magic, all with the falsetta lead must have been influenced, by Eddie Kendrick, who bought a sweet smile to the many personalites that the Temps, are know by. You say Melvin, you get the best bass singer.
