The greatest thing any vocalist can be bless with is a writer, who loves to craft sounds according to your vocals. And with William(Smokey)Robinson, as the group assigned writer, he was blessed by having a writer who could do that and more.
Sure, we know the Temptations, went through a trial of error before achieving the success to place them at the top of the chart. But, they under Kendrick, smooth falsetta/tenor was the object of admiration for success.
The Moments, The Stylistics, The Chi-lites, Blue Magic, all with the falsetta lead must have been influenced, by Eddie Kendrick, who bought a sweet smile to the many personalites that the Temps, are know by. You say Melvin, you get the best bass singer.
You say Paul Williams, you get the soulful vocals of despair explaining love. Of course, you say David Ruffin, one of Kendrick, best friendship to remain after they both had left the group. You get that ruff spark of a dynamic vocalist with a
