12 rocking tracks maddeningly written by the duo Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain with collaboration from power singer Arnel Pineda formed the new album by legendary rock band Journey will be released on May 24, 2011. Five of the new songs revealed are Edge of the Moment, Resonate, City of Hope, Chain of Love, and Human Feel. Here are the details.

New album title finally revealed
The album is hauntingly named “Eclipse”. It was the title whom Schon tipped in an interview last year as a heavily guarded secret. Eclipse will be available only at Wal-Mart in North America. Kevin “The Caveman” Shirley produced the new masterpiece which took one and a half year long to produce. The album will be released worldwide under the label Frontiers Records in the same day – May 24.
Schon indicated that it is a conceptual album – dark, heavy rocking tracks unlike their previous Platinum-hit Revelation which included some ballads. Schon told VH1 News, “The record, it’s been done for a while. It sounds amazing. I’m in love with the record, which I haven’t said for a long time.”
Schon, Cain and Pineda wrote the tracks
Reports of disagreements among band members marred the making of the album. It was reported that the issue was about what kind of tracks must be included in the list – rock vs. ballads. With the announcement of its release, everything has been settled and the collaboration from each of the talented members made the album a masterful work. The tracks were written by keyboardist Jonathan Cain and lead guitarist Neal Schon with collaboration from their new lead singer Arnel Pineda. It is reported that Pineda also wrote one of the tracks.
Rock album to fire world’s rock capitals
Pineda’s performances in the rock capitals of Europe may have inspired the making of the all-rock album. With his powerful voice and energetic command of the stage, Pineda showed he can do the heavier stuffs which the band missed in years.
“You know, I really fought for this record to be the way it is. It’s a rock record. It’s built for the places we’re about to play. We’re playing a lot of big shows – South America and Europe – and we’re going to be touring the whole world on and off for two years. So I wrote for what I felt we were missing in our show. We’ve got a lot of hits to play and we have to play those but there’s plenty of time to do some new stuff too so we’re gonna mix it up,” Schon told VH1 News.
Eclipse – a hard hitting album
In an interview by Las Vegas Review-Journal, Jonathan Cain described Eclipse as “a concept record with some spiritual themes to it. Pretty tough, hard-hitting stuff. This is Journey with big combat boots on. And a helmet and a rifle.”
The band also includes bass guitarist Ross Valory and power drummer Deen Castronovo.
Latest report indicated that Journey introduced and played 5 of the new tracks in Eclipse at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas Nevada, February 23. The new songs are Edge of the Moment, Resonate, City of Hope, Chain of Love, and Human Feel.
