Music and entertainment have been around since man resided in caves thousands of years ago. Entertainment is used to past the time and put aside the troubles encountered in everyday life.
Entertainment has been around forever but it is absolutely nothing like it once was thousands of years ago when the cavemen clanked rocks together, drummed on logs with elephant tusks, or painted on their walls with blood and other dyes. As time has progessed more forms of entertainment have emerged and things that already existed were modified. When was the last time you were in a city and saw street performers banging rocks together and asking for your money. I know I would not be entertained and would continue to walk down the street.
Entertainment has modified based on our wants and needs. Music was used to as an escape route to help the African American slaves through all their pain and missery of the slave trade. It made it easier to bear even through all the whippings, murders, and abuses. A major reason why movies becames so successful in the 1930’s was because the movies produced then were aimed at boosting morale to a nation that was recently stricken by a Great Depression and a time of great anguish. The Wizard of Oz and Gone With the Wind, two of the top 10 best selling motion pictures of all time.
Today we see all sorts of entertainment some of wich many people are very unhappy with. Rap and Hip-Hop two of the music industries most successful fields use extreme profanity and sexual content that appeals to the younger audiances. Many experts attribute increasing crime rate to Rap music because it sends the messege that violence and everyting else portrayed in the lyrics of the songs is okay. Motion pictures have also helped add to this. It seems that in every movie there is someone with a gun, or someone getting in a fight, or someone committing a crime. Should this be encouraged? But it all comes down to will it make money. Everything it seems is based on money, so even if it is morally wrong if it makes money it is produced.
However you look at it entertainment has changed imeasurably over the years. There have been numerous positive and negative effects from to entertainment. Whether you like it or not entertainment is life and it will continue to change as we as people change.
