Puget Sound hip-hop artist, Greg Double releases his first EP, representating four years of work. Digital copies are available now via Bandcamp with hard copies available in January.
I’ve found artists either take a stand as “we and not me” or “look at how good I am”. I don’t take issue with either prerogative, but I do think there’s a time when you need to show off and a time when you need to thank fans for their support.
Blue Nose Music Entertainment CEO, Greg Double, is not afraid to show off his talent in his first EP, Ego Centric. He has been producer and beatmaker for more than ten years. More recently, he has added performer and mixtape collaborator to his name.
Greg Double presents himself as a skilled hip-hop artist in his EP, a collection of songs he has been creating over the past four years.
I would best define Greg Double’s style as “easy listening” hip-hop. Whether spitting clean or explicit lyrics, listeners can expect a relaxing beat and will enjoy all songs on Ego Centric. Greg Double chooses beats that allow his creativity to flow, and he always keeps his rhymes unpredictable.
Aside from the autobiographical title track where Greg Double claims he’ll “never die, just fly like an eagle”, I also like “For the City” and “So Butter”.
“So Butter” is the hip-hop version of sensual food, but Greg Double, collaborating with Castroni and Goph, tell listeners butter can do much more than melt. Lyrics, “butter for your body but bad for your health” because of his “TMG, too much gangsta”, show Greg’s ability to perfect metaphor and alliteration.
Most hip-hop artists have at least one song representing their city, and Greg Double is no exception. He collaborates with Castroni and brags about Tacoma in smooth track, “For the City”: “Our city’s so gritty, but a damn good feeling when the rain can make you smile for the day you’ve been given”.
Songs “Bully Breeds” and “So Invincible” echo the same stand out message as the title track.
Greg Double’s Ego Centric, featuring many Puget Sound artists, is available for purchase at Bandcamp. Hard copies of the album will be available in January.
