Grammys 2012 – Tribute to Whitney Houston

Just a day before the Grammys, Whitney Houston was found dead in a bathtub of her room at the Hilton Hotel. Grammy producers and stars scrambled together to put forth a wonderful tribute to Houston.

It was Saturday, February 11, 2012, just one night before the Grammy awards in Los Angeles California. Whitney Houston had partied the night before with friends; she seemed in good spirits and appeared to be having a wonderful time. Less than 24 hours later, her lifeless body was found by her aunt in Whitney’s hotel suite bathtub. Cause of death is reported to have been accidental however we won’t know exactly what contributed to her death until an autopsy is completed and an official report is recorded.

Some speculate that her years of drug abuse during her marriage to Bobby Brown was her demise. Others believe the stress of being a Super Star and then reports of her voice being not what it used to be, took its toll on Whitney. Still others believe it was just an accidental overdose of typical prescription drugs that took her life.

At any rate, a beautiful soul with an angel’s voice has left us. She leaves behind an 18 year old daughter, Bobbi Kristina who is, understandably, distraught with grief.

The Grammy Awards displayed a magnificent program in tribute to Whitney Houston. The awards ceremony opened appropriately with LL Cool J offering a prayer and making reference to having “lost a member of our family.” Most touching of all had to be Jennifer Hudson’s rendition of I Will Always Love You. Filled with emotion, Ms. Hudson pulled this off well.

Overall, this was a wonderful tribute to a wonderful lady. God gave her a gift and she used it. She wasn’t perfect – none of us are – but nobody can argue the fact that she had an awesome voice, one of a kind. Not surprisingly, today her songs are at the top of the chart and record sells are being set as I write. This Grammy Awards program was the most watched by viewers since 1984 when Thriller by Michael Jackson was performed.

We say good bye to the lady, but her songs will live on in all of us.  The voice of an angel has been added to the heavenly choir.
