A description about a free event I attended.
It is Jubilee weekend and the UK are celebrating; in the pub, in the street and in parks. And for a first time in a while, the community comes together to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee and the fact we have had a four day weekend.
As a non monarch lover, I was originally not planning to celebrate the weekend as I had no interest however I did want to celebrate a few days off. With British weather being dull and cold as usual, a live music event in the local park did not seem so appealing however wrapped up warm, me and my partner headed to the local park and found ourselves having fun for free. A free live music event in the park was relaxing and fun and unlikely very local. Local bands, local food, local people in a local park.
And for the first time in a while, I saw families together; happy and having fun. Children running free and not in fear. Parents in love. Couples in love and relaxing.
The atmosphere was exciting, the music was not too loud and met every-ones taste and the stalls weren’t forcing you to buy.
Free events are rare things these days, and I wonder whether this only happened because of the Jubilee however after looking up the events manager, there are many more of these to come. Free events are the future for me I think. This event brought society together with no dividers, no fear, no pressure. For a society in a recession and family pressures rising, it is these events which helps everyday life become a little bit easier. It certainly did for me.
