I think of Frank Ocean as a clean cut young man and it probably ends there……..

Coachella 2012 Day 2: Frank Ocean by vonlohmann

Okay, I see that Frank Ocean has a signature red and white bandanna, a soft singing voice that kind of goes into what I consider “Falsetto”. Is he really supposed to be deep?
There is always a lot of praise for the Singer Frank Ocean. He’s nice, he’s neat, he can sing. He doesn’t appeal to me in the least. But bear in mind, I may be flying way under the Radar as far as today’s music goes and that covers just about all the Genres. I don’t pick on Rap or anything like that. Today’s music is a sign of the time.
What I think is happening is that people are really and truly looking for something different and unique in singing. There used to be uniqueness all over the place. But these days, true love songs without a graphic in it is unique so it leaves this one particular person as a shining example and yet he is Raved Over but not a Huge Hit either.
I listened to him tonight. He’s okay. Why they are calling him a Smooth or Light R & B….I don’t know. Is there even such a thing? No there is not! I get sick of each time an African American performs it is classified as R & B. Do we really know that the Acronym for R & B is Rhythm and Blues? Does this guy fit into that category whatsoever? I don’t think so. He just sings Contemporary music.
Now, the Pyrotechnicals in the back drop of his songs are awesome. Fires going, beautiful, vibrant colors and he sits and actually sings to me kind of Folksy-like and the crowd is roaring and I say “Why the fluff?”.
Mr. Ocean is a simple guy and I believe he is a good guy too. He’s like my little description of the plain and simpleness of a brown sugar cookie. He looks the part of a young man you would trust to do something important for you and he also seems a little guarded too.
Back in the day, he may have not been so unique at all, he probably wouldn’t have been raved over either. It could be his own revelation about himself to put his performances at ease, that could also send mixed signals to the girls who seem to think that the little guy is so “fine” as they say. I think bottom line is that the word “Gay” does run across their minds and for the same reason they didn’t discuss the sexuality of many singers or any stars in general was to keep the Public wanted more of them and fantasizing. I said before that he put his truth out at the possible side effects of it. His revelations haven’t upped him and they haven’t made him any less either. So it just may be that he is a beautiful but mediocre Performer in general whatever the case may be. But then, who am I. I said I was flying under the Radar. I have to go back at least a Decade or so to get some real satisfaction in music and even further than that! Peace
