Here we look at five songs with Monday in the title.
Way back in 2009 an article was published entitled: From Monday To Sunday: A Song A Day. The article looks at one song for every day of the week! It was always my intention to go back to that subject and explore it more deeply. So better late than never, here are five songs with Monday in the title.
1. Monday, Monday – Mamas & The Papas
What better place to start on a list of songs with Monday in the title than one that has it twice in the title. This Mamas & The Papas song was their second hit in the UK and reached a peak of number 3 in May 1966. It did better in the US though as it hit the number one spot.
2. Blue Monday – New Order
The only word to truly describe this New Order song is classic. Its first release was in March of 1983 when it climbed to a peak of number 12 in the UK charts. It dropped out the charts but then re-entered later on the same year reaching a peak of number 9. It was then remixed in 1988 and reached a peak of number 3 in the UK charts. It got its second remix in 1995 and reached number 17. It also managed to sneak back in to the charts on downloads in 2006! Classic!
3. Monday Morning – Fleetwood Mac
Monday Morning was the opening track on the 1975 self titled album by Fleetwood Mac. The song had been performed live by the band for a number of years before finally being recorded in the studio for the album.
4. Manic Monday – Bangles
There are a large number of people who would quite agree that Monday is a manic day, so it was with no surprise really that this was such a big hit. Manic Monday was the debut chart hit in the UK for the Bangles and reached a peak of number 2 in early 1986.
5. New Moon On Monday – Duran Duran
Not really one of the better known songs by a band who took their name from Barbarella. Nonetheless, it still managed to hit the top 10 in the UK charts, reaching a peak of number 9 in February 1984.
