What happened to the music that made us think?

What happened to the music that made us think? When people used music to protest and to inspire,to communicate the depths of feeling and emotions that made us hope for a better future .I listen to today’s pop music and find none about love or injustice or changing the world .It seem to be about sex-not making love but about having as much sex with different partners as you can ,paying for sex or about raping women and calling them whores for inciting lust in men(or in this case gangsta’s-sorry but I can not condone this.It also seems to be all about robbing people ,or making a fast buck dealing drugs,Violence is rampant in our music culture these days, call me old fashioned but I believe music is the universal language, that it should send a message about our society, culture and all sub-cultures.Now don’t get me wrong there are quite a few artists today that bring a higher standard to music with their uplifting lyrics and songs to make us think, and songs to make us angry about somethings we should be getting angry about.I am not one of those that listens to only one kind of music either,I love all kinds of music from classical to ambient to heavy metal, pop ,punk, rap, and so on .so here are some good examples of what we listen to past and present. Not saying these are the only good songs because there really are too many to count out there.

The Good from today.

The Good from yesterday.

I’m not going to point out the bad songs from either today or yesterday because I believe you should be allowed to make up your own mind about what messages go into your ears and come out of your heart and mouth.
