Confessions of a Rock-a-holic

When you are listening to good music why let religion get in your way m/

The period of renaissance was when I entered college. And suddenly I was introduced to a wide variety of music. A few months passed and I came upon a friend of mine who was a fan of Guns and Roses (Gn’R). Out of curisoty I asked him to show me the best song he had.  If you would have guessed , he did play me “Sweet Child of Mine”. I was blown completely. Immediately I knew that this was what I had been missing all through the years. I got the tracks and I gave them a try. There is no harm in giving it a try.

However what I found out was that Gn’R belonged to the 90’s. The group had disbanded and didn’t produce quality stuff. By quality stuff I mean true Rock n’ Roll. “Welcome to the Jungle”, “Coma”, “Mr. Brownstone” are classics. So I began searching for music pre 90’s. Few options that I had were:

Iron Maiden

Metallica

AC/DC

Led Zeppelin

I was pretty aware of these bands. But not for their music. These bands were brutal I thought.”They are anti -christ” – I said. C’mon Iron Maiden’s mascot is skeleton. “The number of the beast” is their famous song. AC/DC stood for Anti-Christ/ Devil’s Child (My ignorance). What did you expect me to do.

So one fine day, out of curiosity I watched “Iron Maiden : FLight 666″. To be honest I expected a few scenes of devil  worship. F**k me(Sorry for the language). What i found out that Bruce Dickinson had an operatic vocals. He was a polymath: he could fly an aeroplane, fencing and is a screenwriter. Nicko McBrain is a fantastic drummer. (He was a reborn christian….he said it in the documentary itself). I pitied myself for the ignorance that I had been living in. Once i was out of my blindfold, it just took me a few years to fully appreciate rock music. AC/DC leads my list and I have found out that they only stand for (Alternating Current/Direct Current) because of their electrifying music. I do have great respect for these rock artists because they have the power to liberate people with their music.

It’s true rockstar’s live a life of sex, drugs and fame. Given the amount of cash they have in hand, it’s their choice. But what they do outside their music is of no concern to me. These artists can inspire you to pick up an instrument, something which lacks in common day music. What I find in teenagers these days is that they do not search for the music they like. They are happy with what’s thrown at them. Just to satisfy a few friends and keep company they ten to fall out of their tastes. But all it takes is a few searches on GOOGLE. I hope this article would be an eye opener for many, as I had been truly honest in my opinions.

Arstist I listen to:

Gn’R

AC/DC

Metallica

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Wolfmother

Hendrix

Led Zeppelin

and many others…..

It’s no sin to rock, If it feels good, It is good
