A haunting rock balled touching on war and its implications. A concert staple from Deep Purple.
Child in Time is one of the most haunting of Deep Purple’s songs. The song has the distinction of being over 10 minutes long and was included in the 70’s album, Deep Purple in Rock.
Vocalist, Ian Gillan uses some interesting vocal effects in this song, which includes banshee-like screaming, particularly apt and in line with the theme of this song.
Guitarist, Ritchie Blackmore starts out slowly, then builds to a crescendo, which ends abruptly–a fitting statement on war and its aftermath.
Child in Time (or parts of it) has been performed on different albums, included in films, and mentioned in documentaries. This is not a surprise, as both melody and lyrics grab listeners.
See the blind man, shooting at the world
Bullets flying, taking toll
Child in Time has earned its place as a quintessential rock ballad.

Love that bubbly-sounding organ/keyboard effect.
