It was as if a light was switched on when I became part of that band.
It was as if a light was switched on when I became part of that band. For such a long time I would see and idolise those singers and musicians all through my teens and young adult life. Hearing my voice through a microphone was something special. I could let it out and hear it in the streets where I lived, balancing the key I sang in and balancing the tones. I had indeed practiced for this very moment singing along to all those songs bein g played on my record player at home. We would tape all of our favourites on the walls of our bedroom all of us brothers. I would even have some taped to doors of cupboard. We had heaps of records to listen too. We would take them well some of them to friends homes to listen to. These days record companies and song writers go off on a tangent if you share files such as these sounds. Like to see them try it in our time.
There was a place I would venture into especially to see bands each week sometimes twice a week. Usually going there of a weekend meeting up with friends having some beers and meeting others there. I had favourite bands especially ones with female lead singers, unless the male ones if any had talented voices or indeed the song was a good composition. I can recall bands like cold chisel, Jennifer Lee Band, Wendy and the Rockets, they were all great sounding bands and I and friends always returned while it run. Unfortunately this would end as the disco fever was threatening to eat up live band performances. This probably was cost effective as records and a disc jockey were moderate and cheap, in comparison to live performances.
The concert scene was still alive and kicking and well worth the price of a ticket or two. I had friends in bands as well as new ones on the horizon. Ones at which my muso friends would audition for. I would hear about it and if invited would come along to check out the new band and the sound it promised to deliver. I would always concentrate on the singer as it was what I knew about. It seemed that I transcended into another world where tones only existed. I would go to some displays in the quiet days of the week where I discovered underground bands with great soft bluesy sounds. It was a constant that I loved most. I would come out of retirement at times or give my opinion to other singers or muso friends.

I think we all fell in love with the bands. What happened? Where did they go?
