Charged for Listening to Explicit Music

A 19 year old man got charged for listening to explicit news at a country town in Victoria, Australia, the first case of such a charge. After listening to hip hop in his car, he was approached by a police officer and charged with music too explicit! When I read this in the paper the other day I didn’t know if I was to laugh at this or what! I mean what kind of world is this becoming if somebody cant listen to whatever music they listen to? This is the first case of this sort of charge in Australia, and if it does go through it will set a precedence for alot of further trouble for music lovers of all musical genres. Lets look at this in further detail.

My issue to this young bloke getting charged for playing his rap is quite simple! Its a severe impact upon ones freedom to listen to the music that’s synonymous to their very culture and lifestyle. The police officer pretty much charged the guy because he didn’t like the music played! I would have beat his sorry arse into the ground if that had happened to me! Music reflects ones inner thought, values, lifestyle, and culture. To put any restriction to music merely for explicit language is to impede on our sense or normality! We are not sheep, we will not mould to any ideal outside our own! It angers me that in this day and age people get charged for listening to explicit music. Who has the right as to say whats explicit and whats acceptable? We do as the listener, you either listen to the music or you don’t! If you don’t like profanity, then don’t listen to it! Swearing and profanity is a huge part of language. In my opinion explicit language provide us with the most purest way to express emotion through language!

Some of us people don’t like our music censored, or don’t seek entertainment in sugar coated radio music! No law is ever going to stop me listening to the music i listen to! The idea of charging people for listening to explicit music is just beyond me, it is merely revenue raising to fund the boys in blue. We all have our own idea of whats good music, whats acceptable, and whats too out there! Its exactly why we chose to listen to some music whilst we ignore the rest. To restrict music is to restrict art, and this is a huge step backwards in any evolving society. I’ll crank my Pantera, and Metallica, just as ill crank the old Dr Dre, Eze E, and NWA. In fact ill continue to play whatever floats my boat. What kind of police state, intolerant society are we living in? It fears me to imagine what other freedoms we’ll soon be losing if the police keep having their ways. We already lost our guns, what next?

You summed it up perfectly, if you do not like it; do not listen to it. I mean the art of music is as liberal as the freedom of life gets and when restrictions start getting placed upon what we hear and listen to; what is this world coming to?

I mean, you do not see someone going to a person’s door and telling them their television offends do you?

Interesting post and good read. Another job well done.
