Best Workout/pump Up Songs

After running, swimming, and biking for almost 10 years (not combined), I’ve acquired a pretty good list of songs for working out and competing.

I’ve been doing competitive swimming since I was just a wee lad, and now I’ve moved up to the bigger leagues, but these are still the same songs that get me into that focused, powerful, mood before races and push me to be stronger, faster, and better in my workouts.

Howlin’ for You (The Black Keys)

You may recognize this from the recent movie “Inception”, and I guess that might be why I love this song for working out, or even just working in general. I associate it with the idea of being focused in the movie, and then become more focused as a result. Not to mention it’s pretty catchy too!

Remember the Name (Fort Minor)

I will always remember this song as the one that I listened to before my race at Districts. 50 Backstroke in the 200 Medley Relay, placed 13/21 teams and could have Wild Carded into state if any other teams had pulled (oh, we were also down our best swimmer due to a severe case of pneumonia, if we’d had him we would have made state easy). I actually can’t remember seeing any list of pump up songs, ever, without this one.

Eye of the Tiger (Survivor)

This one is mainly a workout song. Strong, steady beat is perfect for running, biking, swimming, or anything. The image of Balboa running through the morning light with his fists pumping in the air doesn’t hurt either. This song has gotten me through more hikes than I can count!

Satellite (Rise Against)

Not sure exactly what it is about this song, but I absolutely love running to it. It picks up my pace right into that sweet zone for me, and I also love rise against, so that’s just like a turbo bonus.

Undead (Hollywood Undead)

Love this song. Powerful, aggressive, lyrics just pound away. Perfect for pumping up or going the distance.

What I’ve Done (Linkin Park)

Keep in mind, this is a personal favorites list, just want to share them. Even if this song isn’t exactly pump up lyrics material, this has kept me up late into the night working on anything related to my future. Gotta get over the past and work up into the future, right?

Let’s Get it Started (Black Eyed Peas)

Again, what pump up list doesn’t include this song? Seriously? It’s almost a must have. Even the NBA had to have it!

‘Till I Collapse (Eminem)

I normally hate rap songs, the whole genre just kind of messes with me, but for pumping up, nothing is better than spitting and raging and pure, unrestricted hatred set to a drum beat. The chorus is pretty cool too, and is what gets me going a little more than the actual rap. :P

Viva la Resistance (Hyper Nova)

I really don’t know what it is about this song, maybe the fast disco-type drum rolls, but I love working out to this song. It’s just so full of energy.

Iron Man (Black Sabbath)

Perfect beat, distorted power chords, and vengeful lyrics that make for a focused, competetive, mindset.

Really do keep in mind that this is my personal favorites list, I’m just trying to emphasize that I’ve had a lot of experience working out and competing, and these songs have all played a huge part in making me the athlete I am today. Try them out, if they don’t fit then don’t use them! Have fun! :3
