Nothing taps into our emotions like music, and some songs have never met their equal when it comes to love and heartbreak.

As a middle aged mom, watching my teens go through the ups and downs of young love, I am reminded of my own struggles of that era of my own life, and inevitably, my mind goes back to the music. There are a few songs that still tug on my heartstrings to this day.
One of these is Chicago’s “Hard to Say I’m Sorry.” Who doesn’t want to hear “After all that we’ve been through, I will make it up to you, I promise you?” And “after all that’s been said and done, you’re just the part of me I can’t let go?” Those are the kinds of real life lyrics that dreams are made of. This great song may be enjoyed here:

Toto’s “I’ll Be Over You” says it all, too, simply, but beautifully. “As soon as my heart stops breaking, anticipating, as soon as forever is through, I’ll be over you.” Big hair aside, this is worth a look and listen:

And, who could forget Steve Perry in Journey’s “Faithfully?” This song expresses the ache of separation like nothing I have heard since, and the amazing vocals are absolutely haunting. If you don’t believe me, just take a listen. “I’m forever yours….faithfully.”

And finally, perhaps the epitome of a love gone wrong, Chicago’s “Hard Habit to Break,” is one of the best breakup songs ever written. You can almost feel the anguish and can definitely relate if you’ve ever regretted a lost love. Prepare to identify if you’ve ever wished you could turn back time:

Thanks to the awesome music of the 80’s, this list could go on and on, but I hope you have enjoyed this short trip down memory lane. The music lives on!
