Today we say goodbye to Etta James, reknowned artist (most famous for her song, At Last), who passed away at the age of 73.

Today we say goodbye to Etta James, reknowned artist (most famous for her song, At Last), who passed away at the age of 73 in a hospital in Riverside, California. She died from leukemia complications after a two-year battle with it.

Born January 25, 1938 as Jamesetta Hawkins, Etta James died five days short of her 74th birthday. Her music consisted of  28 studio albums, 3 live albums, and 6 compilations. She has also issued a total of 58 singles. She has won various awards throughout the years, including six Grammy Awards. Although she had a successful career, Etta James suffered to a heroin addiction, therefore having to endure “a number of stints in a psychiatric hospital” (http://www.contactmusic.com/news/etta-james-dead-at-73_1285613). In 2009, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. She was also hospitalized in 2010 because of a staph infection, and was hospitalized again in May because of a blood infection.

According to New York Daily News, celebrities have taken to mourning over social media sites such as Twitter. Celebrities such as Al Roker, Denise Richards, and Jessica Alba, have tweeted about the death of James. Tweets such as “Showing respect appreciation and love for all the wonderful music and joy #ettajames brought to the world…#ettajamesforever” (@iamwill, Will.i.am), “RIP Etta James. What a talent. She was a true non conformist in music and that’s what legends are made of. #tellmama” (@TaylorRHicks, Taylor Hicks), and “#EttaJames, I will be forever grateful for your voice and your soul. Rest in peace.” (@yelahwilliams, Haley Williams) have been floating around the twitter world.
