Brittany Zika, better known as “Tripster Hipster,” walks in wearing casual clothes, fedora, and black-rimmed glasses. She looks funky and acts perky. The judges like her voice, and she makes it.  Ben Purdom, from Philadelphia, PA, struggles with a bad cold that he has. He sings two songs, and doesn’t make it.

By 2:01pm, Jermaine Jones, a 6′8 1/2″ black man from Pine Hill, NJ. He sings Superstar by Luther. The judges like his spiritual voice and natural gift. He makes it.

Fastforward to Day 2, where red rose petals are splashed upwards like confetti. Brittany Kellogg, 27, enters with her entourage and two small sons. The father of her sons had left her, and she is determined to make her dream come true as she takes care of her sons. The judges like her voice, and she makes it. Samantha Gershman, a jewish girl, doesn’t make it because her voice is made for Broadway rather than American Idol competition.

By 4:19pm, David Weed, from Idaho, doesn’t make it. His jokes were better than his singing voice, although the judges didn’t find him that funny. Young Romeo Diahn, from Liberia, talkes about being in a refugee camp since he was five years old up to 2001. The judges feel that his style is unique, but they especially liked his story. He makes it.

Day 3: By 2:20pm, Naomi Gillies, from Boston, MA, makes it. But other people after her don’t make it. Ben Harrison has the personality and confidence, but he doesn’t have a singing voice. He is twenty-eight years old, and from Eugene, Oregon. He doesn’t make it.

By 6:45pm, many people are rejected by the judges until Jessica Phillips enters the judging room. She is from Brooklyn, NY, and she talks about her boyfriend’s tragic stroke. She stuck by him, helping him through it, including helping him regain his memory of her and his surroundings. She is determined to make it, as she remains loyal to her soulmate.

In Portland, forty-five people make it to Hollywood. Tomorrow night, auditions will continue at St. Louis, Missouri.
