Thin Lizzy released Johnny the Fox as their second album of 1976.
At that point in time it seemed that the world was at Thin Lizzy’s feet. Great tunes, fantastic live shows and bags full of talent. This was the one and only Thin Lizzy in their prime.
Johnny the Fox was a little funkier in style than its predecessors Fighting and Jailbreak. Indeed the bass line for Johnny the Fox meets Jimmy the Weed has been sampled in dance songs. Over all it is a fine album that demonstrated the versatility of the group. Great lyrics, highly catchy hooks, as well as great guitar riffs. They certainly knew a great tune when they played one.
Best songs include Massacre, Boogie Woogie Dance, Don’t Believe a Word, Johnny, Rocky, and Johnny the Fox meets Jimmy the Weed. The title track, Rocky, and Johnny are about underworld crime bosses that Phil Lynott was acquainted with.
