About 9/11 and When I got deeply into Blues music. Jonny Lang’s video "Darker Side"

Music has always been my solace, and song lyrics an explanation of things at the moment, that are causing me distress of which, at the time I can’t seem to comprehend the meaning of the distress.
The Blues have fascinated me for years. I became a devoted Blues fan in 2001. Until, then I loved Rock and Roll. And though I admired Blues music, because my Dad who was a musician was into the blues sound. I never really got into the depths of it until 2001. About four days after 9/11. I took out a CD of Jonny Lang and played it. I had won the CD on the radio, but had never really paid that much attention to it until that day.
I had been watching television for days on end, about all the people that had lost love ones, after the bombing in New York. I had cried along with the pitiful faces of people looking for their loved ones. I felt after a few days of this I should try to pull myself out of this grief for a bit. So, I thought I would listen to the radio for awhile, and all that was the radio was more about the bombing.
This bombing changed the lives of so many people, and an entire nation as well. September, 11th 2001, will always be remembered as the day, when we as a nation were invaded on our own soil. This had not happened in several centuries. So, it was incredible to this generation, and others preceding it. The loss of life was devastating to us as a whole, and will never be forgotten.
So, I put in the “Lie to me” CD by Jonny Lang into my CD player, and gave it a listen. At first I was impressed by Lang’s guitar. It reminded me of B.B. King’s style of playing, with just a little something else thrown in. Then, the next thing to impress me was Lang’s style of singing. His vocals were raspy, raw, and full of blues. I read the insert in the CD pocket, and was astonished to find out that Lang was just a teenage when he recorded this CD. His voice had the maturity, and wisdom of an old soul in tone and deliverance of song. I was in awe. Two songs from the CD stood out to me the most. One of them was “Darker side”. The lyrics and delivery on Darker Side, ” even in the brightest light, you might lean toward the darker side” is profound lyric wise. I suppose every human has that capacity to lean to that darker side. The darker side of humanity which exists in chaos and greed. The other song that really stood out also was “A quitter never wins”. The lyrics are “seems like now days ain’t nothin’ meant to last. One day you’ve got it all, and then it disappears so fast”. These lyrics rang the truth of what was happening at the time. Sometimes we think we have it all, and then life has a way of showing us, it can disappear so quickly. Things can change abruptly, and without warning suddenly, as things had changed days before.
Jonny Lang has won various Grammy awards after the “Lie to Me” CD and has became a Gospel singer. No doubt with the wisdom, and soul that his voice contains this was inevitable.

the words are important to me and yet they only really come to life when the music is played – a true fusion!!
