On July 6th, 2012, 2NE1 released their all new music video "I Love You". Check it out here!

Music Video Review

When I refreshed my Youtube page and saw 2NE1’s new music video “I Love You” uploaded, I was absolutely thrilled! This video was fresh and new, seductive, and can be summarized in one word: Sexy.

The scene begins with CL lying down on a bed, with CL saying “When you feel like there’s no way out, love is the only way.” I thought it was a little corny, but hey, at least CL can speak fluent english and rocked that intro. Next came Minzy on a bed singing with her amazing voice, and CL assisting her while she’s zooming up an elevator. I loved the background music in this scene, and this electric guitar-sounding instrument playing in the background (I’m no musician, I have no idea what sound effect that was).

After the intro was done, Bom came and sung “I Love You”, which I suppose was the chorus in this song. The 2NE1 members were portrayed sitting in the backseat of a car, windows wet with the rain (and snow, maybe?), lights flashing as they speed by a tunnel. They all look awkward sitting there – I feel like they need to get up and start dancing, not sit and wait until their next destination. But hey, that’s just me and my past 2NE1 experiences.

Next came Dara, and BOY was I surprised when I saw the side of her head shaved like no tomorrow. I loved how her hairstyle was, but why did the cameraman concentrate on the shaved side and not the other? I think Dara’s hair before was fine, and I can’t imagine what she was going through when YG suggested that she a portion of her head shaved. But knowing Dara, she probably thought that it was a good idea, or probably came up with the idea herself.

The video continued with Dara walking down an alleyway of some sort with CL in a random phone booth in the center. Minzy is on the side with her pink umbrella singing, and it’s snowing outside. I don’t know if its custom in Korea to use umbrellas when its snowing, but I found the whole concept weird.

Next, Bom is on her bed wearing the most seductive white clothing I’ve ever seen. CL opens the door to a room (which, I’m guessing, is Boms), but then the scene changes to them riding a train.

Shortly after, CL is dancing in a spy outfit in someone’s office. She looks like she’s dancing for someone, some office worker maybe, but no one is in the chair. It’s raining outside.

Next, Minzy is standing in a weird circle thing and is doing her sexy dance outside the room CL went into. Maybe she’s jealous that CL is dancing in the room and she’s not? It also stopped raining but there’s thunder and lightning flashing outside.

In the next scene, it’s clear that the 2NE1 members are staying in a hotel or building of some sort that is uncomfortably close to a lighthouse. A very bright beam of light is constantly spanning by their open windows every second. It must be extremely annoying to deal with that sort of thing. No wonder they can’t sleep!

The music video continues with them doing a dance (FINALLY!) in some room with paper lanterns floating on the floor and an abnormally huge origami rose in the background. This doesn’t make any sense, but dance scenes are usually never tied to the story at hand.

The video ends with CL walking away from the room she went into.

So what the heck is the Storyline?

I’m not quite sure, but I do think there is something on a deeper level going on here.

I believe the music video is about the girls being in love with someone, but the love isn’t being reciprocated. They are lonely in bed, they can’t sleep, and they are searching for their lover by car, train, and foot. The scene with CL dancing in the office symbolizes her wanting to please her partner, but to no avail (hence the empty office chair).

The music video in itself is very hard to interpret, and I’m not sure if this was just a bunch of scenes strung together with the theme being “Lonely Girls”, but if you have any other clue please post below.
