10 Songs to Put on a Mix for Your Lover

If you are in a new relationship, you may feel compelled to make “mixed tape”, MP3 playlist or CD, for your sweetie. There are millions of songs out there to pick from, these are a sampling of some of the best.

  1. Prettiest Song by Arthur Lee and Love. “Cause you’re the prettiest song I have ever sang.” An older tune, but with a line like that it is sure to make somebodies heart melt.

  2. All I want is You, by U2. “You say you want your story to remain untold”. This is a beautiful line because it shows true intimacy, by trusting somebody enough to be able to tell them of your past, knowing that they will not use it in a way to hurt you. Finding true love means being able to find somebody you can be vulnerable with, on your music mix it says to your lover “I am that person.”.

  3. Mint Car by The Cure. “The sun is up, I’m so happy I could scream. There’s nowhere else in the world I’d rather be.“. This song is about being in the moment with that special someone. A happy little ditty like this is sure to put anyone in a good mood, and that is exactly what you want to do with your music mix.

  4. Wonderful, Wonderful by Johnny Mathis. “You turn to me with a kiss in your eyes, and my heart feels a thrill beyond compare.“. This is an older song, from a man with one of the smoothest voices in the history of music. If you are a younger person, you may not be familiar with him, but music is great to stimulate romantic encounters.

  5. Satisfy my Soul by Bob Marley. “I feel like a sweepstakes winner, when I meet you around the corner.”. This man was brilliant, if you have never listened to Marley, and your prospective loved one has never listened to Marley, now is the time to start. Studies have shown that a persons attractiveness is highly dependent on listening to Reggae music. Okay I just made that up.

  6. Our song by Taylor Swift. “Our song is the way you laugh, the first date “Man I didn’t kiss her and I should have”. Consider this a token country song, but it is actually fun and tells an interesting story. My wife is a former punk from the ’80’s and she liked it.

  7. Viva la Vida by Coldplay “Be my mirror, my sword, and shield.”. If you were to listen to the lyrics alone this song might not stand a chance, but the singers voice and music combine to make this a must have song on your compilation, especially since you probably will not be able to understand all the words of the song.

  8. Pocket full of Sunshine by Natasha Bedingfield. “I smile up to the sky, I know I’ll be alright.”. A positive, moving forward song. You will note as well it is important to have female and male singers on any music mix you create.

  9. Nine Million Bicycles by Katie Melua. “There are six billion people in the world, more or less, and it makes me feel quite small, but you’re the one I love most of all.” I do not listen to the radio much lately because I haven’t found much music worth listening too. However I do really like this song, it is catch, clever, and happy, all things good for your music list.

  10. Dear Prudence the version by Siouxsie and the Banshees. “The wind is low, the birds will sing, that you are part of everything”. An uplifting and encouraging song originally by the Beatles, but I like this version better, and can almost guarantee it will be something your sweetheart has not heard of before and will be impressed by.

Try to find your sweethearts favorite band, and add some uplifting songs by that band, make sure you include songs by your favorite band too, after all no relationship will work if you have different music tastes. Depending on how far you are in your relationship will determine the amount of “Love” songs you put in your music mix. Although the current trend is towards making a simple “play list” giving them the object of an actual CD is something more tangible, and thus will be more valued, especially if you create your own CD cover.

Sweet list. You named some really great tunes. Anyway, I don’t think it would hurt to add a few more: Curtis Mayfield’s “The Makings of You”, Coldplay’s “Yellow”, Jah Cure’s “Unconditional Love”, Smashing Pumpkins’ “Stand Inside Your Love” and “Perfect”, and Six Pence None The Richer’s “Breathe Your Name”, to name just a few. Anyway, it is a very good list you’ve posted here.
