I decided to list my ten favourite Oasis songs that were not included on their Greatest Hits, "Stop The Clocks". Some people may agree, some may disagree.
Below you will find 10 of the best Oasis songs that they decided not to include on their 2006 Greatest Hits release, Stop The Clocks. Why some of these were not put in there may always remain a mystery. The following include some of their biggest hits, others are relatively rare, but one thing for sure they are all quality tunes.
This song was the third single released from their third album, ‘Be Here Now’. It hit number one in the UK charts. The video can was obviously influenced by the Beatles film Yellow Submarine. Although the release date was early 1998, the song itself was actually one of the first songs ever written by Noel Gallagher, the band had even rehearsed it way back in 1992. The first time I ever heard this song I was very impressed although the length of the song was something of note. A lot of the songs on the same album were derided by many for their length, although nothing wrong with a bit of length. This song does get a bit like Hey Jude at the tale end of the song.
Originally a hit for Slade in the 70s, Oasis reworked it in a similar style to the original. They famously performed it on Top Of The Pops and it was part of the B-Side to the song Don’t Look Back In Anger in 1996. Of all the cover versions that Oasis have performed, this one ranks right up there at the top. It is almost as if the song was written specifically for Liams voice.
Well seen as everyone says that Oasis like to copy the Beatles isn’t it apt that they did? This version of the Beatles classic was arguably one of the songs that helped catapult Oasis to the forefront of British music. The story goes that the manager of Creation records was at a concert that Oasis were the support act at, he heard them play this song and was impressed enough to offer them a recording contract. The rest, as they say, was history.
Another B-Side here, a song that can best be described as a typical Oasis rocker about youth and growing up and all the trials and tribulations involved. It was 1995 when it was released as the flipside to the song Wonderwall. I still maintain that had this song been released as a single it would have become one of their biggest hits. Not only did they not think it was good enough to be released as a single, they didn’t even put it on their album of B-sides, The Masterplan.
This Noel written song was originally meant to be issued on their debut album Definetly Maybe but wasn’t (apart from the Japanese version of the album), it did find its way onto an album eventually but not an Oasis album. It was included on a free CD given away with copies of the Big Issue. Personally, I think this song would have improved their debut album, which is an amazing record anyway. The fact that this song could have made a great album better proves how good a tune it is, Oasis at their acoustic best.
Another hit from their debut album, it was this song that really brought them to the attention of the masses. It peaked at number 11, which considering that every other of their songs has gone higher in the charts since, but one, shows just how much of a turning point in their career this song was. A classic video aswell as a classic song from the original Oasis line up.
This song from the album What’s The Story (Morning Glory) had all the potential to be a massive single for Oasis. Instead it was decided not to release it as a single and just have it as an album track. Arguably the best song on the album. Although the Oasis album Stop The Clocks was a greatest hits and not a best of, this song surely should have been a candidate as it is a stronger and even a better known song than some on the album.
From the album Be Here Now, it hit the number 2 spot in the UK when released in 1997. Includes a line about ‘throwing-up’ a Sunday lunch, apparently written when Noel Gallagher was suffering from a touch of food poisioning. A lot of Oasis fans tend to pass over the Be Here Now period because they think it is their poorest work. The truth is that the album stands the test of time and still stands up as a classic. Personally, it is the Oasis album I always go back to.
From the much derided album Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants, this song was one of the greatest Noel ever sang. Interestingly the album name is very close to the text written on the side of a British two pound coin, the only difference is that on the coin the word shoulder is pluralised. Not one of their biggest hits but did reach the top 5 in the charts.
This single was released at the tale end of 1994 and became the bands biggest hit up to that point (peaking at number 3 in the UK charts). The song bridged the gap between the first two albums although has never appeared on any Oasis albums, even their best of. Interestingly, if you have a look at the writing credits for this song you will find that it is shared between Gallagher and Innes. Who is Innes I hear you ask? Well that would be Neil Innes of the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band who wrote a song called How Sweet It Is To Be An Idiot, the powers that be found that Whatever by Oasis was too similar to the Innes song, so Oasis had to give him a writing credit.

never heard of them. But maybe they didnt include these because they didnt want to put covers on a greatest hits album.
