This is a list of my favorite Metallica songs. I am not a heavy metal fan or a thrash fan. So this list comes from an avid rock fan who loves great guitar riffs and really enjoys frontman James Hetfield’s voice.
Cover of Die, Die My Darling
With my favorite Metallica songs, you will realize a pattern: they are more rock/hard rock than metal. And it is ok. I have never been a fan of the metal genre (liking Iron Maiden and Judas Priest don’t count, I like their rock songs too). That’s right. I like my songs fast, my guitar riffs catchy. Well, it is ok to catch your breath once in a while too. Enjoy the list.
Until It Sleeps
This is my absolute song. I love everything about this song. It also shows what a great voice James Hetfield has. Cool video too. Modern but totally 90s. If all Metallica songs were like this one, I’d be one of their biggest fans.

A little country, a little rock. Acoustic guitar, accompanied by James’ amazing voice. Fun video that is also really cheap and easy to shoot. Even if you are not the biggest rock fan, I dare you not to enjoy this one. Soft and easy on the ears.

Fuel
Oh, how I love thee! Yes, I just went Shakespeare on a song.Well, I do adore this track. It totally reflects my energetic nature. You want to exercise? Head-bang? Run off steam? Release the anger? This is the song. It rocks, man. It just rocks.
Nothing Else Matters
A slow, classic. Even your parents can’t claim to get a headache because of this. It features Metallica’s one of older line-ups. Ok, so the video has a part where drummer Lars Ulrich plays darts on Bon Jovi drummer) Tico Torres’ face but who cares? The song is good.
Whiskey in the Jar- garage inc.
This is so going into my sequel post on best covers. The original is sung by Thin Lizzy. But this one is faster and it is such an ultimate party song. It even has the video to prove it.
Die, Die My Darling
OK, this is also going to a future post. Let the title and the topic be a surprise. Despite the “scary” title, the song is very fun and totally electrifying. And if you are going through a bad break up, there’s no better song to express your “love and gratitude”.
So what
OK. The lyrics are bad. I don’t mean they suck, I just mean they are not…nice. So take kids and the elderly away. Then listen to the song. It is bad but it is so good. The music, that is. The music? Never been better.
No leaf clover- S&M version
Well, Metallica realized that classic music alone might be boring. Metal alone can be damaging for the ears. So, add violins and other wonderful instruments to your regular metal band and voila! You will have glory.
Wherever I may roam- S&M version
Yes, I prefer this version of the song. Much easier on my ears and head. So?
I disappear
This one is from the Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack. One awesome song with one hell of a video.

Some good songs there. I’m more into Metallica’s metal than hard rock, but still you listed some good stuff.
